My Manaslu Circuit Trek Experience.

In 2016, I went on the Manaslu Circuit Trek with eight others from Kolkata. We were a mixed group—different in age but connected by our love for the mountains. Most of us weren’t beginners; we tried to do at least one trek every year. I can’t speak for the others, but for me, this journey did something special. It helped reset my mind and brought fresh energy into my creative life. Trekking through remote villages, crossing the high Himalayan pass at Larkya La, and being away from the noise of everyday life gave me a sense of clarity and calm that stayed with me long after the trek was over. It was more than just a physical challenge—it was a journey I’ll always remember.

The Journey Begins: Drive to Soti Khola

Our journey began with a long drive from Kathmandu to Soti Khola—the official starting point of the Manaslu Circuit. As we left behind the busy city streets, the road slowly turned rural, winding through green hills, terraced farms, and small villages. Though the ride was bumpy at times, the changing landscapes outside the window made it feel like the adventure had already begun. By the time we reached Soti Khola, I could sense that something unforgettable was about to unfold.

Walking Through Wild Beauty: Trails of Manaslu

The trails on the Manaslu Circuit were a mix of calm and challenge. Each day brought a shift in scenery—dense forests filled with bird calls, narrow cliffside paths above the Budhi Gandaki River, and high mountain valleys wrapped in silence. We passed through remote villages where children waved shyly and elders offered kind smiles. Life here moved slower, simpler. The mix of nature’s raw beauty and the quiet warmth of the local people made every step feel deeply meaningful.

Crossing Larkya La: A Real Test of Endurance

The toughest and most unforgettable day came when we crossed Larkya La Pass, standing at an altitude of 5,106 meters. We began before sunrise, walking through cold winds and snow-covered trails in complete silence, each step heavier than the last. The air was thin, the climb was long, but when we finally reached the top, it felt like the world opened up. Surrounded by a sea of peaks—Manaslu, Himlung, Cheo Himal—the view was beyond anything I had imagined. It was exhausting, emotional, and absolutely worth every step.

A Moment to Remember: Standing Beneath Manaslu

One of the most emotional moments of the trek was simply standing beneath the towering presence of Mount Manaslu, the eighth-highest peak in the world. We weren’t at a famous base camp, but the sense of connection was just as powerful. The silence in the valley, the wind brushing past prayer flags, and the sheer scale of the mountain made me pause. In that moment, I felt incredibly small—and incredibly alive. It was a quiet, personal kind of victory.

Looking Back: What the Mountains Gave Me

The Manaslu trek wasn’t just about walking through remote trails or crossing a high mountain pass—it was something deeper. It challenged my body, yes, but it also cleared my mind. The quiet mornings, the steady rhythm of footsteps, the unexpected conversations with strangers-turned-friends—all of it left a mark on me. I came back with more than just memories. I came back with a calmer head, a fuller heart, and a quiet reminder of how powerful nature can be.
